The Engine Is Apart
September 29 - October 1, 2013
Although work on the car has been at a stand still I have been saving towards getting the engine done. I’m at the point where I needed to do the teardown and cleanup. Once I found the engine I removed the transmission which was a little difficult as it was basically on the floor. The engine was then put on the engine stand and flipped so I could remove the oil pan. A 2x6 was cut to fit under the front end of the block so it would be supported while I worked on it. With everything ready I loosen as many of the rod nuts as I could and then found a bar that I could use to pound on. One by one I beat the heck out of them some more than others placing a length of fuel line on the rod bolt to help protect the cylinder walls and also give me something to hold just before they fell out. Once the pistons were all out I removed the timing cover and finally the crank and cam.
Overall it went well and it is pretty clean as always there was still a fair amount of oil and coolant in the block that all came out as soon as I first flipped it over.
