Today I know of a bunch of options to get away from that mess, oh well.

Spare Engine 4, or Is That 5

November 30, 2008

Like I really need another engine, the price was right but not the location. This one was six hours away on a good day, this was Sunday on a holiday weekend. I got a later start than planned as my brothers truck wasn’t available, once on the road it didn’t take long for me to realize it might have been a mistake, a little more than an hour out a truck stalled out on a curvy two lane road, oy. Once pass that and to the highway I then say the traffic heading the other way, I figured by the time I went another four hours and back it would have cleared, not. I got the engine and a quick bite to eat then hit the road, the traffic was heavy and never let up. For over 180 miles we crawled, inched along, there were time it didn’t move for 20 minutes plus.

I finally reach a point that I knew I could get off the highway, figured even if the detour was double the distance at least I was rolling. Not so easy, the fog was quite thick and I was ok as long as I could see another cars taillights but once they turned off I was screwed. The lights on the truck were high and lit up the fog and never touched the pavement, I did my best to creep along and keep moving. Periodically another car would pass and I could get going, usually didn’t last long. I was still making better time than I was on the highway and this detour wasn’t that much out of the way, once clear of the fog I made it back to the original route expecting to see the long line of cars, none. No idea what may have been going on with the highway but the secondary road was empty not even one car, keep in mind even on a good day there is always traffic on this road. I wasn’t complaining, turned and burned.
