Reflections

Maybe in a few years I'll look back at this and reflect.

Newhall Fourth of July Parade

July 4, 2017

In previous years I have ridden with Ron in the Newhall Fourth of July Parade, this year I planned on having my car there as well. I left early and met up with Ron and headed up to Newhall where we met up with the CHP at the Office. We head out and go to the staging area and wait for the parade to begin.

The parade starts and we finally roll, the CHP Charger leads and we follow with myself in the middle. The first part of the parade runs through Old Town and the crowd love the cars, we then turn onto the main drag and a couple blocks later the car shuts down. I get out and start pushing the car around the corner off the parade route. Ron continues and I sit and wait for the car to cool down, I made couple attempts to start the car and I had no luck so I had the car towed back to the CHP office.

Back at the office we look at the car and felt the fuel pump wasn't pumping well enough and Ron just happened to have one in his trunk. With the pump swapped the car fired up and on we went, with the car running I thought we'd go for a drive and get some pictures. At the first stop the car started acting like it was going to die so I told Ron we are heading home, it was in the 90's and I felt the car couldn't handle to heat.

About 35 miles later we get to Fillmore where our paths split and I stop to say bye to Ron and the car dies. We are in a center where there is a parts store so I manage to get the car to that part of the parking lot. Still confused on what might be going on we put a new fuel filter in and keep trying, with all the trying to start the car we needed to get some jumper cables. After about an hour and a half we got it fired up and it felt fine (for now), so while the engine was still cool I wanted to get gas so I wouldn't need to stop again on the way home.

Every mile we went put us closer to the coast where it was cooler, Ron chose to follow me a little further till I was sure it was going to make it. Once we got to the coast the car seemed to be running fine so I released him and headed home.

I have a couple months to figure this out before a couple long haul shows.
