Holey Rusty Floorboards, More!!

September 25, 2010

I had some time this weekend to work on the car so I set to get the rear floor mat out. Before I started I first needed to organize all the parts that were coming off, all the hardware was bagged and tagged but the larger parts were a little scattered.

First up I needed to remove the “deluxe” seat belts, these are a retractable shoulder belt that was specially equipped on some of the 1969 CHP Polaras. With those removed I was able to remove the b-pillar mouldings and the lap belt retractors. Having cleared the mat of all attachments I tried to move it but it was stuck, in looking I saw a pair of carriage bolts that went through the mat and the floor. One of the bolts came out fine the other pulled through the mat and the floor as the floor was pretty rusty in that location.

With the floor mat out of the way I was able to clean under it and assess the damage, some patches will be needed. I also pulled the rear seat/trunk divider panel and discovered the ruminants of a broadcast sheet.

This time I brought a bunch of smaller parts primarily from under the hood. I acquired a replacement battery heat shield that needed to be flattened an have the rust sanded off. Along with the heat shield I had the two grill supports (one needed straightening as well), the bumper support and the two spotlights. One by one they were all cleaned up and treated with a rust converter.
