Parts and accessories

Right from the beginning I was collecting parts and accessories as fast as I was learning what I was looking for some time too fast.

First up was an antenna mount, at the time I had only see the Motorola mount on a car and grabbed one I saw on ebay only to learn later the CHP used an Antenna Specialist model.

Two sets of chrome lights were acquired figuring I’d strip the chrome if needed and paint them. Doing research I learned that the Dietz company was absorbed into the Truck-Lite company, looking through their catalog I saw that they still sold a work light of the same style. With plan-b in place I set the chrome ones aside for sale.

The first item that Ron referred me to was outside radio speaker for under the hood, it was quickly scooped up.

Knowing now what the correct antenna mount should look like one was located and acquired, still need the spring. At this time I seemed to find many of the parts I was looking for including a pair of light mounts that I thought would be difficult because of a hard way do ID and describe (I found them looking for lights).

  • Motorola Motrac radio (much like the correct Motran)
  • Inside Motorola speaker
  • Very close siren (C4B vs. C4HB)
  • All three colored lamps
  • The rare correct gun lock/mount
  • Voltage regulator
  • Antenna spring
  • Flasher
  • Panel switches
  • Forward clear spot lamp
  • ...and many of the bits

With all that taken care of I was pretty darn close to having it all. A pair of correct vintage Dietz lights was acquired along the way.

The greatest find has to be the correct Motorola control head made specifically for the California Highway Patrol and getting it far less that one might have expected.

With the list of parts pretty much taken care of all that was needed was a real car.
